A Glass A Day Keeps The Doctor Away

I am sure you have heard the saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”, well we have even better news, seems that wine isn’t so bad for you either! Who of us doesn’t love to sit on the couch in front of our favorite television show and enjoy a nice glass of red or white wine after a long day? For us winos, this is some of the best news we could ever get! Wine? Health? We’ll take it! So let’s find out a little bit about how we can drink our wine guilt free!

Health Benefits

You may have heard before that moderate alcohol consumption is good for cardiovascular health as studies over the last ten years have led doctors to this conclusion. Not only is it good for heart health but also has been proved to be one of the eight ways to reduce the risk of developing heart disease. The bad news? You cannot necessarily down any type of alcohol and expect a healthy heart. Research has led us to believe that it is red wine specifically that is most beneficial to your heart health.

What Is It Exactly That Helps Your Heart

The main factor scientist have determined helps the heart when it comes to red wine is the amount of antioxidants. More specifically, these antioxidants are referred to as flavonoids, and these antioxidants reduce the risk of coronary heart disease in the following ways:

•    They reduce the production of low density lipoprotein cholesterol that we normally refer to as “bad cholesterol”
•    They boost high density lipoprotein otherwise known as good cholesterol
•    Last but not least they reduce blood clotting

Beyond The Heart

What is most exciting is that recent studies have shown that moderate consumption of red wine can have health benefits further than just your heart. Researches have found that antioxidant resveratrol (found in the skin of grapes) may inhibit tumor development in some cancers. There has also been another study that found this antioxidant found in grapes have aided in the formation of nerve cells which could eventually be helpful in treatment of neurological diseases.

The Best Sangria Recipes For Any Occasion

The Best Sangria Recipes For Any Occasion

Wine is wonderful. There are so many types that go well with any occasion, whether you’re watching a movie on your couch or throwing a party. But sometimes, wine can get—dare we say it—kind of boring. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to step up your wine game. One of the most popular, as well as our personal favorite, is sangria. Made with red or white wine, fruit, and even hard alcohol if you’re really trying to rage, sangria is a refreshing drink that requires minimum effort and maximum enjoyment. Check out Winefolder for the perfect sangria wine, and read below for a few delicious recipes.

Red Wine Sangria

The beautiful thing about sangria is its versatility. All it takes is a few simple ingredients, customized whichever way you’d like in order to be delicious. That being said, here’s what we think is the best red wine sangria in existence. You might be asking yourself what type of wine you should use. Well, you’re free to use whichever you’d like! If you’d like to stay true to traditional Spanish sangria, however, try a Garnacha or another medium bodied red wine like Merlot. Once you’ve picked your perfect wine, use it in the following recipe.

-->
Ingredients (serves 1-4):
·       Your bottle of wine
·       1 can of Sprite or other lemon-lime soda
·       2 shots of Triple Sec
·       1 lime, thinly sliced
·       1 lemon, thinly sliced
·       1 orange, thinly sliced
·       Berries! Add as many strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries as you’d like
·       Ice

Directions: First, add all of your fruit to a large pitcher. Next, add your wine and triple sec. Let that delicious mixture soak for as long as you can (it’ll be difficult, we know!) before adding in your soda. Pour over ice and enjoy!

White Wine Sangria

If red wine is a little too intense for you, don’t worry! There are plenty of sangrias made with white wine that are just as delicious. If you want to stay traditional, use a bottle of Spanish Cava, otherwise, a zesty, sparkling white such as Prosecco works great, too. Like red wine sangria, feel free to use any kind of fruit! Our favorite recipe, however, involves peach.

Ingredients (serves 1-4)
•    Your bottle of wine
•    ¼ cup of Brandy
•    2-3 tablespoons of sugar
•    4 white peaches, cubed
•    1 lemon, thinly sliced

Directions: First, add brandy and the lemon slices to the bottom of a pitcher. Next, add the peach cubes and ice. Pour your white wine over the mixture and serve.
